There are several plan types available when selecting an employee benefits plan and it's important to choose the correct one for your situation.


There are many variations of ways plans can be set up but there are three basic plan types that need to be considered for most small or medium sized businesses - each with their own advantages and disadvantages.


  1. Insured (Traditional, or Experience-Rated Plans)

  2. Flex Plans

  3. Administrative Services Only (ASO)


To help get you started, we've put together a simplified table to help describe the various plan types and how they work. This certainly doesn't cover everything but it's a pretty good start.
